The quest for equality: african-american pioneers in the sport of basketball

October 25, 2005- December 3, 2005

Today's NBA owners, players and coaches owe their success to a story of struggle, frustration, sacrifice and perseverance. This exhibition provides a historical timetable of a pursuit for justice and equality, documenting how African-Americans overcame discrimination while helping to foster improved race relations in all areas of American society. Vintage uniforms, a hall of fame member wall, and videos of game highlights are included along with franchise souvenir items. The National Basketball Association, the National Civil Rights Museum and Southwest Airlines are sponsoring this unique, one-month exhibition.
