Melinda Thao's Unity

2013 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have A Dream” speech. On January 21, 2013, CAAM hosted the DREAM@50 Art Award ceremony for the artists, their families and teachers. The artwork, created by students in Los Angeles area elementary, middle, and high schools, best exemplifies the values and vision articulated in Dr. King’s momentous speech. Judges of the submissions included artist, Mark Bradford; Vida Brown, CAAM’s Visual Arts Curator & Program Manager; LA Times Chief Art Critic, Christopher Knight; Steven D. Lavine, President, California Institute of the Arts; Gayle Garner Roski, Artist and Arts Advocate; and Franklin Sirmans, Curator of Contemporary Art, LACMA.
