Through the eyes and voices of traditional and contemporary artists, community leaders, cultural historians, activists, and educators, this once-a-month Sunday cultural experience, hosted by Jeffrey Anderson- Gunter, celebrates the diverse influences and achievements of art and culture from the African American Diaspora.
The 2012-2013 season includes an engaging hands-on art project guided each month by local professional artist and educator Teresa Tolliver. Participants create their own art piece based on a unique theme each month. (photo of Nita Whitaker LaFontaine by Earl Dotson)
A wonderful mix of theater and music are performed by our talented guest artists, as CAAM gives the “Arts” a big plug by highlighting the importance of the arts to our communities. Excerpts from various “solo shows,” and vocalists joined by a diverse ensemble enhance this special presentation.
We pay homage and lift our voices in spoken word, song, storytelling, music and dance, as we celebrate the contributions and sacrifices made by our ancestors and veterans in defending our liberty.
In keeping with the seven principles of Kwanzaa, we gather for a special celebration in the spirit of giving and community. Music, spoken word, and seasonal reverie will help herald in the holidays and bring to closure another year. You can also find your gift giving needs fulfilled at our holiday marketplace, or choose to make something with a personal touch at our arts workshop.
