Miles Dean, Black Cowboy ends trek across the united states at CAAM

Miles Dean, a cowboy from New Jersey and his horse Sankofa offically completed their journey, dubbed "A Modern African American Pioneer" trek yesterday, April 1, 2008 at CAAM.  Beginning many weeks ago in New York City, we were honored to have him end his journey at CAAM, where Kamau Khalsani also offered a libation ceremony blessing the final leg of this monumental trek.  One of Dean's mission was to raise funds for education and promote the history of the Black Cowboy.  Here are a few photos from the completion ceremony.    You can learn more about Miles Dean and his cross country trek at The Black Heritage Riders website.  www.blackheritageriders.org

U.S. Senator Barack Obama book signing event on Friday, October 27, 2006.

CAAM hosted Sen. Barack Obama to speak and sign his book, "The Audacity of Hope," and we estimated there were 800 people in attendance.  Following his uplifting speech the Senator signed all the guests books including those in the standing room only line.   There were many positive comments provided to the staff on how well organized the event was carried out.   Truly a great experience for all.
